Communications
Momentum gives you three ways to talk to the people in your organisation: direct messages, a discussion forum, and one-way broadcasts. All three live under Comms in the sidebar.
Sending a direct message
- In the sidebar, under Comms, select Messages & forum.
- Stay on the Messages tab. You'll see every conversation ("thread") this organisation is part of, with its subject, type, number of participants, and when it was last updated. Unread threads are shown in bold with an unread badge.
- Select New thread.
- Give it a Subject.
- Under Participant IDs, add the reference number for each person to include, separated by commas or spaces (for example,
12, 34, 56). You can find a person's number by opening their profile from Persons and checking the number at the end of the page address. - Optionally write a First message so the thread isn't empty when it's created.
- Select Create thread.
To reply to an existing conversation, select it from the list, type your message in the box at the bottom, and select Send.
Tip: opening a thread automatically marks it as read for you.
Running a forum
The Forum tab (next to Messages) is for longer-running discussions organised into categories and topics — think of it as a noticeboard rather than a chat.
Setting up a category
- On the Forum tab, select Add next to Categories.
- Give it a Name and, optionally, a Description.
- Select Create category.
Starting a topic
- Select a category from the list on the left.
- Select New topic.
- Add a Title and the Content of your post.
- Select Create topic.
Each category shows its topics with the author, view count, date created, and whether it's open or locked. Pinned topics are marked so they stay easy to find at the top of the list.
Sending a broadcast
Broadcasts are one-way announcements — use them for things everyone needs to see, like a fixture change, rather than something you expect a reply to.
- In the sidebar, under Comms, select Broadcasts.
- Under New broadcast, fill in a Title and Message.
- Choose a Priority: Low, Normal, High, or Urgent.
- Choose an Audience: Organisation, Selected teams, or Everyone.
- Select Send broadcast.
Every broadcast you've sent is listed under Recent broadcasts, with its priority, content, and when it went out.
Good to know
- You'll also spot Comms lab (dev) in the sidebar under Comms. It's a developer preview area — organisers can safely ignore it.
- Broadcasts reach people on their next refresh; they're not a substitute for anything time-critical like a same-day pitch change, which is still worth a phone call.
- For a branded public page members and the public can view without logging in, see Microsites and Public results pages.
